Department Commander
On Saturday June 5th you elected me as your Department Commander for the ensuing 2010/2011 year. I want to thank you for having the confidence in me to elect me as your Commander. I promise to do my best to fulfill the office of Department Commander. Again, thank you for your support.
We held our first Executive Committee meeting on Sunday after the Memorial service at 10:00 AM. and it was a good meeting. We went over some issues from the previous administration. We will be addressing these in the coming meetings.
I want to thank Commander Cecil “Bud” Hennis for a very good year. He worked very hard during his year as Commander and accomplished quite a number of goals.
We are gearing up to have another good year. During our first Executive Committee meeting I announced the theme we will be using this year. I sincerely hope that all of the Posts will get behind this theme and accomplish the end results. We will borrow a little well known saying from Las Vegas. But instead of 7-11 let’s use the theme of 27-11. Let’s get 27,000 members during our next year. And I believe we can do it. The department and posts throughout our great state can pull together and accomplish this meaningful task. Not only will it help each Post, it will also give the Department of South Carolina a larger voice in Washington when we lobby for our veterans benefits.
The month of June will be very busy. June 13th. – June 19th. Palmetto Boys State, June 18th will be the Governors Banquet at the Carolina Coliseum, all Legionnaires are invited. June 19th. – June 25th is the Nathan M. Wolfe Law Cadet Academy and on June 26th the Post Commander and Adjutants meeting will be in Columbia. We need all Post Commanders and Adjutants attending this meeting. June 27th. Carolina Celebration of Liberty, Columbia First Baptist Church.
Let’s all pull together this next year and make it a banner year for THE AMERICAN LEGION.
Again thank you for your tremendous support and let’s make South Carolina No. 1. We can do it.
