The American Legion, Department of South Carolina is made up of over 28,000 Legionnaires in 190 Posts all across South Carolina.
The Department is Divided into four Zones with a Zone Commander elected every two years on an even/odd rotation for a two-year term. The Department has within the four Zones a total of fourteen Districts. Each District Commander is elected every two years on an even/odd rotation for a two-year term.
The Zone and District Commanders work on the goals as outlined by the Department's "VISION and GOALS", for growth, membership, programs and awareness (Public Relations). Each Zone and District Commander is elected within their respective Zone/Districts and is sworn into office at the annual Department Convention.
All Department Officers are graduates of the American Legion Extension Institute Course and attend an annual "Officers Retreat" for developing the ensuing years goals.
